Gives you that extra power for heavy UAD sessions
The positive side: I combined UAD-2 Satellite Octo T3 with my Apollo Twin X for extra power and easy workflow without losing power for my UAD plug ins, works really great and easy to use. The Negative side: UA must start delivering T3 cables with their products, especially a really short one for connecting between Apollo and Satellite. But the major thing I would do is to let the customer choose plug ins especially when you already have an Apollo and own most of the plug ins that comes in the analog classics.

Still on the fence!
Didn't seem to add too much processing power.
Would avoid and get an Apollo instead.
Not thoroughly convinced from an otherwise stellar company.

Fault -38 on Mac (Intel)
Fault -38 in Mac (Intel)
Not every-time, but to many times. Then it crushes completely the mac and you have to shut down the mac…

Does what it says on the "Can" but was a disappointing purchase!
I am a great fan of UAD so please do not misunderstand the Title. I had to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 to replace my Firewire Satellite. In practice, this unit does NOTHING more (or less) than my firewire unit. It is extremely disappointing that I had to spend extra $ to upgrade this unit so as to keep up to date with the Software/Hardware dilemma that these external plugins require. I do not want to get into a Ping/Pong argument of Apple versus UAD but this situation is disappointing nonetheless. Software ONLY plugins although might cost a little more to retain compatibility with newer OS's do not need additional external upgrades like this unit. If you are new to the UAD platform, then I recommend this units however my experience has tarnished this platform.

Way Overpriced For What It Does
If you’re going to commit to the UAD ecosphere for your home studio, be prepared to shell out a ton of money just to be able to use what you’ve already paid for. When I laid out the cash my Apollo Twin and then shelled out another wad of dough for some UAD plugs, I figured I was set. Nope. If you want to actually use those things effectively, you have to buy a Satellite. And I don’t feel like UA does anything to communicate this well for someone new to the product. On top of that, the Octo was $1200 and I STILL run out of processing power. Looks like I’ll still have to freeze tracks, just less of them. Unless i want to spend another $1200 for another Octo. Really didn’t want to spend what I already have so that’s a no. Love the UA gear and plugs, everything works and sounds great and am glad I have them now but I probably would have gone a cheaper route had I realized it was going to be so expensive.

Great except for not being able to use in console
I have the Apollo twin x duo and bought some plugins with high DSP requirements then I kept maxing out my DSP and getting the error message with a link with advice on on how to manage DSP resources better in the short term and the recommendation of buying a satellite for a long term fix, So I bought one and then found out it doesn’t actually work in console. Still happy with it for use in DAWs, however I do feel misled.

Expensive box with DSP’s
I love UAD plugins and needed the extra satellite to have enough DSP power to run enough in my projects. It works fine. Just a bit pricey for what it is.

Value for Money
Yes, it was a good and right decision to get this device - and even combine it with the Ultra 8 Bundle. Sound, quality etc. - all very, very good. But, for whatever reason, I quickly reach 50 percent - even just I have few tracks with vocals. What do I do wrong?

Daisy chained with apollo x8p fix (-38) code
Start off by saying i recived this free with a promo by purchasing an apollo x8p and love the value but at first i was haveing issues hooking it up. I was also receiveing the (-38) error code which means there is some sort of connection issue. This will disable plugins and make your computor's DAW lag. I do wish it came with a manual detailing how to hook it up with another piece of hardware to avoid this. I have mine daisy chained via thunder bolt 3 cable in this configuration. Apollo satellite to apollo x8p to my imac. I had to mess with different configurations till i finally landed on this one. I've noticed that if i power on my computor then my apollo x8p and then the satellite in that order i have no issues. How ever if I power on all 3 simultaneously I will recive the (-38) error code. Dont know if it will fix everyones (-38) issue but it seemed to work for me and im useing the long 6 foot thunderbolt 3 cables. Its annoying doing it in that order everyry time but it worked so.. Now i have lots of DSP and its working as it should but it was a little annoying haveing to figure it out.

Great, but lacking a little.
This unit is great in that I am able to use UAD plugins, but it lacks in that I can only use about 10 plugins at a time. This limits me to just using it on mix bushes. I wish, for the money, they gave you more processing power.

Dem "Gear-Aquisition-Syndrom" erlegen
Lieber Leser.

Great piece of gear but DSP power still a slight issue.
I bought this to add to my Apollo Twin setup. As the DSP on the Twin ran out pretty easily I thought this addition would be great. It's a nice piece of gear, but DSP is still an issue on occasions. I saw YouTube videos saying how you could run endless effects on each track. Not true. Too many and it coughs and splutters and can cut out. It's great and I love it, but has it's limitations. If you want to run things like the SSL channel strip on multiple channels, it's very limited.

As good as the plugins are...
Plenty of people have rightly rated this 4 and 5 stars for the quality of the plugins, which is very fitting, however, it does NOT come with a Thunderbolt cable. The only place that seems to state this is the video for how to set the UAD2 up. Not on stockists' websites, the product page on the UA site and not even on the box/instructions.
.
Does the job. Wack Promotions for it.
Looks neat and does the job. Sweet. Just hope plugin promos could always be there for people buying this as it's more affordable than Octo.

Apollo and UAD-2 Satellite do not work together
With this device, plugins in your DAW run on UAD-2 Satellite DSPs. An Apollo and the UAD-2 Satellite do not work together. The device handles plugin processing from the DAW OK so 3 stars. UA plugins are CPU intensive so the offload is welcome. A UAD-2 does not extend DSP capacity of an Apollo unit. A UAD-2 doesn't work in tandem with an Apollo. You cannot use this device to gain more DSP capacity for the UA console app. For the price this really doesn't amount to much. I previously loaded 24 tracks with all the plugins I needed on my early 2015 Macbook Pro i7. This was a waste of money. The UAD-2 Satellite has one trick which makes it worth far less than the asking price to me. A short TB cable won't destroy your margin
.
I'm justifying my purchase by saying how great it is!!!!!
i sent my octo back. demoed many plugins and thought they were ok. what a lot of hype though.
