Studer® A800 Multichannel Tape Recorder Plug-In
Glue, glue and more glue! Sounds great... thick and full, like I remember 2" 24. I put it on all tracks and now my recordings sound more cohesive. This plug-in will get a lot of use!

Sweet!
Warm and subtle glue mojo for your mixes. Slap it on as many channels as you can! I made the mistake of buying it with only a solo. So now I have a quad too ???? Might seem a bit much resource-wise but it's so nice it eliminates the need for a lot of my normal compressors and EQ. Can't vouch for it's authenticity as I never used a real studer but judged on it's own merits I think it delivers. The price may put some off but compared to the hassle and cost of using real multitrack recorders it begins to look a lot more economical.
I don't personally use it on busses - that's more of a dsp resource decision rather than a mix decision. I'll hopefully be getting the Ampex for buss duties soon ????

Ever since I demo-ed the plug in and after I purchased it, I use it in every recording and mix.
The price may be a bit on high side, but for those who know what a Studer® A800 Multichannel Tape Recorder was/is, what it means to recordings and what is its use, then any hesitation is gone, I guess.

Get to know it and it will work
Great plugin! It takes some time to get to know it, and at first the effect might be less obvious than you might expect it to be. But it is definitely worth it while it's on sale ;-)

This plug is everything it says it is, Gives you that warm tube sound when I put it on a track that I am laying down or after I've already recorded the track. I waited to purchase until UA ran it on sale and I could not be happier with this purchase. Like most UA technology this plug lives up to everything you read about it. Although I am an amateur studio guy I am a long time musician and I know what its supposed to sound like. This is truly a phenomenal plugin.

I nearly bought a Studer A807 machine a few years ago but got a bit frightened by the cost and time of maintenance and finding parts, etc...
UAD really nailed it with this plugin, the depth, color, warmth, stereo image are just so incredibly good. I use it on every channel in Logic, at the start of the chain, and the Ampex ATR-102 on the master bus.
Use it as an EQ on bass too with more extreme settings.
Once your mix is done and that you got some really nice 3D vibe from this plugin, try bypassing all of them and your nice mix is collapsing like a house of cards....
what a fantastic plugin! I recommend it especially in combination with the Ampex.

I've been printing this down with the UAD Console. Gives absolutely everything I put it on just the right amount saturation. Beautiful!

A Must Have!!!
The Studer A800 is the first plugin I place across my mixes. This helps me get a good sound right off the bat. Once I dial it in, I proceed by placing the SSL G Buss Compressor on the Master Bus and start mixing from there. Do this and not only will you end up using less EQ and Compression, but your mixes will sound better because of it. Don't forget to play around with the Bias and HF filter. That's where the magic is at!

Another superb plug in from UAD. BUY THIS!!! Adds warth, depth and that gritty vibe. Goes perfectly along with everything/anything. This type of saturation is really hard get in a daw world, but know - Its here!

It's awesome.
I'll be honest - I'm part of the generation that grew up not using tape everyday.
I would be lying if I said "Man it sounds just like tape!" because I haven't tracked barely enough projects to justify that statement.
What I can say is I like what it does - subtle or extreme - i really like just chucking in on a track or two and see how things change.
Really cool plug in and awesome concept to have in the box!

Drums gets more plastic and become 3D-like. When you close your eyes you feel like standing in front of the kit.
One thing could be better: Gang control should be possible in different groups.

Yes. Because we're human. I like to be nice and warm wrapping. Representation makes it.
Is a plug-in I wanted. 'Cause I'm an emotional person who likes to be warm at the same time. I'm not an expert. I could not listen to people saying you're ok, I saw for the first time put the board on the master channel. Did you warm. It's ok to purchase, so you forever give love.

Playing a mix through Studer (and Ampex) creates the same improvement one might find between icemilk and icecream!
Not sure if any of you guys were ever poor enough that your parents bought you icemilk but believe me... Its night and day!!!

Awesome plug-in That change recordings to "records"
I consider myself blessed to have come up during an era where tape was still relevant. It wasn't hard for me to transition into the digital domain But the further I got into digital the more I long for the warmth of tape. This plug-in allows you to have that tape warmth while operating in the digital world. The response and characteristics of this plug-in reminds me of a time when I fell in love with working in the studio. I can really appreciate having the Tape sound without all of the Tape machine maintenance.

After spending 10 years trying to achieve a decent sound out of my box, this is it. Where all comes down to. You just can't get enough of the warm of this shit!! it's amazing, along with the ampex in the master buss it's just a non-sense not to get it

Tape saturation!
this one gets many uses...
i use it to obtain realistic tape saturation when gain pushed hard...awesome!
also great as an equalizer....especially to soften the high end
and of course multiple instances can be used to add color and tape feel to the whole mix
