The One
Of all the plugins I've tested and/or bought over the years, none has had the impact on a "finished" piece of music that the Ampex ATR-102 has. Find your setting, listen for a minute, then bypass this plug. You will be dumbfounded. Truly, I never knew what I was missing. UA makes lots of good plugins, and a number of great ones. This is the One that is indispensable and irreplaceable.

Ampex is a wonderful plugin!
Ampex is a wonderful plugin! I recommend to use it on the bus and on individual tracks. Ampex with SSL mixer makes it sound alive!

Freaking awesome! Demo at your own risk (you WILL buy!)
I've been waiting patiently to get this plugin, and I finally had the opportunity (see funds lol) so I did. All I can say is WOW! I am so impressed by the sound that it imparts to the music. I should've gotten it sooner, but I went and got Slate VTM a while ago, and while I still think that's a good plugin, I did some comparisons to the UAD Ampex and it is so much closer to a real tape machine. You can hear the saturation when you hit the tape hard and the resulting sound is just like I remember back in the good old days when I used to overdrive tape. Beautiful sound, easy to use, and very deep if you want to get into the nuances and settings... Get it now! I'm going back to mixing!!!

I love this plug in. I use it when I mix and master, sometimes it's to rough on the low end when I master, but overall a wonderfull Plug in

I can always find a use for this
Be it degrading the signals a bit to achieve a more lo-fi grunge, to getting psychedelic with the wow & flutter, this tape recorder lives on my busses. I've always dreamt of having my own reel-to-reel, but this has filled my desires completely. I love that it can sound beat up and grimey, or pristine and warmth. I really appreciate the fine level of controls it has (for instance, being able to turn off noise/hum and recording more pristinely) and I've found this plugin greatly rewards experimentation.

Extremely versitle. Overbiasing and sync eq. Just amazing that such a complex network of electronics can be not only modeled but controlled via a gui. Wow

Let's be honest
Ok lets be honest, in my case I don't use it like they say to... I prefer a clean mix verses the dirt that everyone is trying to recreate in there mix, so with that being said. I use this plugin very lightly just to bring a little more of the low-end out on the master, because it seems to get lost when mixing different projects. I enjoy the way it glues and gives a nice harmonic saturation to the record so check it out..

Great tape emulation
Impressed with this emulation. It can be used very subtly or can add a lot of colour and/or saturation. The library of presets is invaluable to start you off and showcase what the plugin is capable of. Quite different colour and more versatile than a competitor's plug in endorsed by Eddie Kramer - I am glad I have both as they are very different and suitable in different situations. I think for me the ATR102 will be used a lot more.

This is a great tape plugin for the master mix bus. Great variety in the sounds you can achieve.

The Hot Glue Gun
Very impressing! This glues all tracks together and deserves a regular seat in the master channel. It seems to bring warmth, life and even energy to almost any mix.

Superb tape emulation
This lives on my master bus. I couldn't imagine my master bus chain without this plugin to add that tape warmth. And without the hassle of having to maintain a 2 track tape machine.
